The e-bike rebate is intended to support employees who commute to and from the Okanagan campus by e-bike. Eligible employees are welcome to apply once they have returned to work.
One of the primary objectives of the E-Bike Rebate Program is to encourage a shift from private vehicle use to cycling. While conventional pedal bicycles can support this goal, e-bikes make it easier to travel longer distances with less physical exertion.
E-bikes also typically have a higher upfront cost than pedal bicycles. By focusing on e-bikes, the program aims to reduce both geographical and financial barriers, helping make cycling a more feasible and appealing commuting option.
The E-Bike Rebate Program is funded by Sustainable Transportation, a unit within Campus Planning at UBC Okanagan, supported by revenues from sustainable transportation levies on parking.
No, rebates are available only to eligible UBC Okanagan faculty and staff toward the purchase of an e-bike for their own personal use, primarily for commuting to and from campus.
Purchasing an e-bike for another individual — including a friend or family member who is 18 years of age or older and commutes to UBC Okanagan for work or school — is not eligible for the rebate.
